Green Tea & Citrus-Infused Risotto

Ingredients:

- 4 cups vegetable broth

- 2 Cederberg Organic Herbal Green Tea bags

- 1 ½ cups Arborio rice

- 1 small shallot, finely diced

- 2 tablespoons olive oil

- ½ cup dry white wine

- Zest of 1 lemon

- Zest of 1 orange

- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice

- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice

- ¼ cup Parmesan cheese, grated (optional)

- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

- Fresh parsley or mint, for garnish

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Green Tea Broth: In a medium saucepan, bring the vegetable broth to a gentle simmer. Add the 2 green tea bags and allow them to steep for 5-7 minutes, then remove the bags. Keep the broth warm on low heat.

2. Cook the Shallots: In a large skillet or pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely diced shallot and sauté for 2-3 minutes, until soft and translucent.

3. Toast the Rice: Stir the Arborio rice into the skillet with the shallots, allowing the rice to toast lightly for about 2 minutes. This enhances the nutty flavor and creates a nice base for the risotto.

4. Add Wine: Pour in the white wine, stirring until it's absorbed by the rice. This deglazes the pan and adds depth to the dish.

5. Cook the Risotto: Begin adding the green tea-infused broth one ladle at a time, stirring continuously. Wait until each ladle of broth is absorbed before adding the next. This process should take about 18-20 minutes, creating a creamy texture in the risotto.

6. Add Citrus Zest & Juice: When the risotto is nearly done, stir in the lemon and orange zest along with the freshly squeezed citrus juices. This adds a bright, sophisticated flavor that complements the delicate green tea notes.

7. Finish & Season: Once the rice is creamy and tender, stir in the Parmesan cheese if desired. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

8. Serve & Garnish: Plate the risotto, garnishing with freshly chopped parsley or mint for a pop of color and a refreshing herbal touch.

Enjoy: This Green Tea & Citrus-Infused Risotto combines the earthy, smooth notes of green tea with the zesty brightness of citrus, creating a refined and flavorful dish perfect for a sophisticated dinner.

Good, basic organic green tea

I'm trying to incorporate more herbal teas and less coffee into my daily routine. It seems as I get older, I've become quite sensitive to caffeine. I make a large thermos of tea each morning to sip on thruout the day. I use 1 ginger, 1 decaf green tea and one of these regular green tea bags, a little honey and lemon. It's a delicious, healthy blend with just enough caffeine to get me thru the day. It has a nice, earthy taste and doesn't get bitter like some teas do. I also like that it's single sourced. Because I subscribe to this product and have it delivered monthly, it's important that it is consistent from month to month. The tea bags themselves are also unbleached and compostable, no strings, staples or tags. Just straight tea bags, no frills. The price is very reasonable if you buy the pack of 100, which is what I get every month ( I drink A LOT of tea!!)This is definitely my regular, go-to for green tea!

A basic, and more dry, nondescript green tea

When I ordered this tea, I wasn’t sure what I was getting as it was just simply labeled “green tea” (camellia sinensis)and other than being identified as organic. Reading on the package, you find out that this is a single estate tea and is grown in the Shimen County in North Hunan Province, China. Besides being USDA certified organic, this tea is claimed to be sustainably farmed without pesticides and hand picked. The tea is bagged with no strings, tacks, or individual packaging. The bags are advertised as being fully compostable, which is nice as it seems the entire life cycle of this tea is sustainable (to include being packed with hydro and other clean sources of power). There are 100 tea bags in a resealable, foil lined plastic bag (likely the least sustainable part of the entire thing). The bag seems to keep air and light out, which should help keep the tea fresh. The instructions are to use 150-180 degree F water (bring water to a boil and let sit for 2 minutes) and steep the tea for 1-3 minutes. I just used my instant hot water tap to make a cup and didn’t pay super close to the time (so a cup could have ranged from 1-10 minutes). I found that the tea is consistent in flavor across temperatures and times to make a tea that tastes basically the same, which is nice as it is easy to make and forgiving in the process. The flavor is described as being verdant and smooth finishing, but I am not sure I would agree with the verdant part as it does not taste overly vegetal or grassy to me, but more dry like a Himalayan green tea; however it does have some subtle sweeter vegetal undertones beneath that dry top layer that are much more noticeable once the tea cools down and gets to a colder temperature (more warm than hot). The finish is indeed smooth even if still a little dry, but I didn’t find it to ever be bitter per se.I would say that if you were to hand me a bag of tea from a restaurant, airline, hotel, etc. and it was just labeled as green tea, especially if it was some large brand, this is about what I would expect in the way of flavor, but this may be ever so slightly better quality and I do like the sustainability of the product (between growing the tea to disposing of the spent tea and tea bag). For me, this is sort of a generic green tea and a bit middle of the road. I do prefer green teas that are less dry and have more edamame, sweet vegetal, and grassy flavors, so while I do recommend this tea as a generic green tea, I will say that I think there are better green teas out there (and certainly worse too).

This tea is really robust - way more than a popular brand I have used. I wish I would have read the description more carefully. However, if you are trusting then this tea tastes great.

I haven’t had rooibos tea and gave this a shot… A couple boxes later, I’m still buying it. It tastes great. I think it’s crisp and refreshing when you have it iced. You should give it a try
